Rupertswood is a magnificent historical home, famous not only for its beautiful architecture, but also as the birthplace of the Ashes. A social game of cricket was played at Rupertswood on Christmas Eve 1882 between the visiting English cricket team and a group of locals, mostly Rupertswood staff. Nobody kept score, but it was generally agreed that the English cricketers won! A bail was burnt and presented to the English team, and the two teams have been playing for the Ashes ever since.
Rupertswood is now a function centre and hotel. Wedding ceremonies and receptions are held in its magnificent halls and rooms. The original owners of Rupertswood entertained in grand style, and this tradition is continued.
